According to the U.S. Drought Monitor's High Plains summary for the week precipitation across the High Plains was generally near normal over the last week, with the exception of northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota.

According to the just released US Census of Agriculture Colorado Hay and Haylage operations number 14,907. That number is up from the 2012 Census when operations numbered 12,798.

The 2017 Census numbers show Colorado Harvested over 1.5 million acres of Hay and 3.7 million tons. In 2012 the state harvested just under 1.3 million acres and nearly 2.7 million tons.
