I'm Bob Larson. Walla Walla sweet onion harvest has begun and onion lovers are licking their chops, dreaming of their favorite recipes. Pacific Agrifarms owner Mike Locati says they've been out in the field for about a week and so far, so good ...

LOCATI ... "Good, yeah! I mean, actually we do have some rain today and it's actually kind of nice. It gives us a little bit of a break. The onions really grow when they get a little rain. I don't know how much we're going to get, but yeah we started topping on the 10th and been moving right along and things are looking good, gotta good crew, so yeah, we're pretty happy."

Locati says from what he's hearing, the other growers seem to be of the same mood...

LOCATI ... "Yeah, I mean you run into some fields here and there, but I mean that's never going to be perfect, but yeah I think everybody else is going and seems to be chugging away."

He says acreage-wise, things have remained pretty steady ...

LOCATI ... "Yeah, we're pretty much relatively flat acreage, you know. We always would hope to put in a few more, but you've got to do what the market will bear, right?"

New this year, Locati says they've got a new look coming on

the marketing side ...

LOCATI ... "You know, as a company Walla Walla River is our packing shed, but we're doing a complete re-branding this year so it might not happen until later in the season or for sure next year, but, you know, we're just changing up the logo and kind of getting consistent and updating things so we're excited for that and hopefully people will see those in the store and like what they see and like what they taste."

Harvest should continue until mid-August. Listen tomorrow for more on this year's Walla Walla Sweets.
