I'm Bob Larson. After 17 ½ years as CEO of the National Potato Council, John Keeling has turned over the reins to new leadership, retiring to spend more time on his Virginia farm.

Recently, on potatocountry.com's Potato Podcast, Keeling had an "exit interview" of sorts with host Dave Alexander who wanted to know what's next? ...

KEELING ... "My next job is going to be doing a little bit more time sitting on a John Deere tractor and soaking up some sun, but I appreciate that. I have been very touched by the people I've come to know in the industry and for their affection for me and my affection for them has been a wonderful thing for my life."

As for what's next for the NPC, Keeling says they're in good hands ...

KEELING ... "I left plenty of things that need to be done and I think being followed by a great team, I think Kam Quarles and Mike Wenkle, who'll be taking over, will do an absolutely fantastic job."

Looking forward, Keeling says it's a good thing ...

KEELING ... "I don't think we'll miss a step, at all. In fact, I think there is a reason that changing management occasionally is a good idea. You know, I mean, new people have new ideas. They have new thoughts, new inspirations, new ways of thinking about things. And, I think that kind of change is valuable and good and, you know, probably good that I got out of there when I did. I didn't want to overstay my welcome. So, I think change is a good thing and I think this will be a positive change for NPC and for the industry."
