01/30/06 Swine Information Day

Washington Ag January 30, 2006 The Washington Pork Producers, National Pork Board and Washington State University Extension have organized the 2006 Swine Information Day coming up this Friday, February 3rd. The event is at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco running from 8:45 am to 5 pm. Sara Smith, WSU Grant/Adams Area Extension Agent, says basic swine health is going to be one item on the agenda. Smith: "We are going to have a vet that is going to be presenting the practical application of vaccine schedules with also parasite control. Being that we have a limited number of vets available to our swine producers it will be nice to have one that can address some of these issues." Meat quality is another topic. Smith: "We are also going to have a hands-on lab put on by our meat specialist Dr. Jan Busboom so we are going to learn about qualities that our consumers are looking for but also get to see them first hand." The Washington Pork Producers dinner and annual meeting follows the seminar. Some funding for Swine Information Day is being provided by the Pork Checkoff. For the complete agenda and more information visit www.animalag.wsu.edu or contact Smith at 509-754-2011, ext 413.
