03/27/06 Produce Railcar program meetings

Washington Ag March 27, 2006 The company the state of Washington intends to contract with to operate the Produce Railcar Pool program is holding meetings around the state this week for potential users of the program. Rail Logistics of Kansas is the company and Mike Rowswell of the Washington State Department of Transportation explained the importance of these meetings during an event last week in Moses Lake. Rowswell: "But it is very important that this company hear what your needs are specifically so that they can design a detailed scope of work that will fill the need starting this July." Rowswell says about 75 refrigerated cars should be available by mid-July. How they will be geographically dispersed has yet to be determined but in addition to eastern Washington, Rowswell says some cars may be needed in the Skagit Valley. The first meeting with Rail Logistics for interested parties is tomorrow, Tuesday, in Seattle at one p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel on Madison Street. The Pasco Airport's Florentynes Restaurant will be the site for a meeting March 29th at 2 p.m. Quincy will have a meeting Thursday the 30th at the Port of Quincy at 1 p.m. The agenda for the meetings will cover who Rail Logistics is, shipper needs and wants and possible solutions, costs including freight rates, insurance, paperwork, and how the pool might work. I'm Bob Hoff.
