04/04/06 A sheep producers` field day

Washington Ag April, 4, An event that attracts youth and adult sheep producers from throughout eastern Washington and northern Idaho is coming up this Saturday. It is the Spokane Area Sheep Producers' Field Day. The Field Day will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tom Platt Washington State University Extension Educator says this year's event is being held at Feustel Farms operated by Art and Doctor Jill Swannack ten miles west of Sprague. Platt: "Doctor Swannack, who is a veterinarian, will talk about flock health at lambing time. And following her presentation in the morning Doctor Jan Busboom from WSU is going to talk to sheep producers about maintaining high meat quality in the butcher lambs that that they sell." After a lunch provided by the Spokane Area Sheep Producers' Association, there will be a tour of the Swannack's sheep operation and Art Swannack, who is president of the Washington Wool Growers Association will speak about two schools he attended last year, including the Howard Lyman Sheep Industry Leadership school.
