Launched in 2020, the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol’s vision is to set a new standard in sustainable cotton production where full transparency is a reality and continuous improvement of cotton’s environmental footprint is the central goal.

So what happens when you signed up initially and are wondering where to go from here? Well, the answer is level two. Chaz Holt, Director of Field Programs for the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol talks about the recent addition…

“Level two is an opportunity that we now have at the Cotton Trust Protocol to offer funding assistance to producers seeking to adopt more sustainable practices on their farms.”

With implementation of Climate Smart Practice Changes, growers can be eligible to receive up to $45 per acre for three years.

“The practices would include cover crop for the first time or, if you have been cover cropping, you can adopt a mixed species cover crop. You can also adopt strip-till or no-till practices for the first time on a field-by-field basis. And, in addition to the adoption of either cover crop or new tillage practice, you can adopt a nutrient management plan – and that is just basically documenting your nutrient plans – during the time of these practice adoptions. “
