Colorado Legislative Session a Success for Corn Growers

The 2017 Colorado Legislative Session proved successful for the Colorado Corn Growers Association as the five bills supported by the organization passed.

One of the bills House Bill 17-1219 will give farmers and ranchers another tool in efforts to combat the ongoing buy and dry trend in the state. Senate Bill 17-036 which will limit the evidence that district courts may consider when reviewing groundwater appeals. House Bill 17-1061 will increase the weight classifications for commercial vehicle. House Bill 17-1190 will require that a particular section of the St. Jude's Company water case decision does not apply to certain water rights or claims. The fifth and final bill they supported is House Bill 17-1282 which will create a student loan repayment program for veterinarians practicing in rural areas.

Colorado Corn Communications Director Eric Brown shares

Brown: "Those are the five that our public policy committee really zeroed in on to take a position on.There are so many bills out there, you always have to pick and choose what you can follow and what is worth supporting. With limited time of farmers and staff, you have to pick and choose wisely what you support. It looks like those five bills will all be law before too long."
