12/09/05 Young Farmers and Ranchers program

The Young Farmers and Ranchers committee of Farm Bureau provides an excellent opportunity for farmers, ages 18 to 35, to actively participate in their organization's programs. For the next year the Idaho Farm Bureau YFR chairman will be Mark Harris of Caribou County. He was elected at the recent Farm Bureau convention and replaces Scott Bird, another longtime YFR member. There are a lot of reasons why the young men and women are joining this Farm Bureau program. VARIOUS "My dad has been a board member for years and in fact he was involved in the YFR when he was younger, when he was my age and told me this was something that I needed to do." "They do more for us than we every realized. We don't have time to do all that they do for us and it's nice to know somebody is out there looking out for the farming industry." "You know I don't have time to lobby for things that a pertinent to farmers but its good to belong to an organization that does that kind of stuff." Over the next couple of weeks we'll introduce you to five couples, all young Idaho Farmer and Rancher award winners who will complete next month at the American Farm Bureau's annual convention in Nashville.
