Whats Really Dangerous..Not Meat!
I’m Susan Allen this is OpenRange. Whenever, wherever, there’s a food borne outbreak it seems cattle are always the scapegoat.Remember the California lettuce scare, the one where anti-meat activists ranted that there must have been cows somewhere nearby. While alarmist like to blame cattle, when it comes to germs and virus stay tuned you’ll be surprised by what is really dangerous . When I toured a packing plant this Spring, it was amazing to see all the high tech safety steps meat goes through. I remember one area where carcass’s were electrocuted to irradiate diseases. New technology has made meat much safer, so much so that latest data from the Center For Disease Control shows that only 21, 244 people got ill from something they ate and eighteen deaths were reported. Put into context, you are far more likely to die riding a bike, climbing a ladder or crossing a street. The CDC also reported that food borne illnesses decreased eight percent. For meat eaters data stacked up like this. There were forty one outbreaks associated with eating fish , forty with poultry and just thirty three for beef. If you are worried about getting virus, get raid of iPhones, Ipads, Droids or blackberrys. New research just published by the Journal of Applied Microbiology states that our personal devises could be harboring more germs than a toilet in a subway bathroom. They are apparently so good at spreading nasty germs one doctoral student from Stanford who co-author the recent study says if “if you put virus on a surface, like an iPhone, about 30 percent of it will get on your fingertips,”. And we worry about meat!
