Blowing Holes In The Latest Anti-Beef Story

I’m Susan Allen welcome to Open Range, Twelve hours from the time I saw a piece on Reuters with the headline “ Eating Lots Of Red Meat Causes Strokes in Women", that story (by evidence of Google,) had already been picked up by pages of news outlets . Fox, CNN, Yahoo Heath etc...  and  you know what's really sad...  gullible Joe Pubic will believe it. Stay tuned for Open Range. The latest anti-beef PR tactic that was subtly doled out to every media outlet leads with  the attention grabling headline, “ Women who eat a lot of red meat may be putting themselves at risk of stroke, a new study in more than 30,000 Swedish women hints.” Before my suburban sisters call to tell me they’ve cut red meat from their diet, lets  take a closer look and as I like to say on Open Range, "blow some holes in it".   Women who eat “a lot of red meat” ( This study makes no designation between processed meat high in sodium, or a lean cut of beef, venison, bison,  heck in Sweden maybe it's reindeer? "May be " putting themselves at risk. May be? Not very convincing .  The resarch uses the word “hints”,  why hint if it isn’t conclusive.   And please tell me how Ms. Swedish researcher knows if her subjects  who ate "lots of red meat" wern't simply  gluttons,  gobbling up  “lots” of refined sugars, wheat and trans fat, known to be far greater causes of blocked arteries.  I also wonder about the number of women whom  had families with histories of strokes?  Also what ages were most of the strokes, in this age 39-73 catagory.  My bet,  sixty years and older. Now how can that be blamed on red meat?  Despite the sensationalized headline meant to curb meat consumption, buried further down in the article  was the statement that "out of three recent studies regarding red meat and stroke, only this one has found a link."   You know we won't be hearing that on The View.
