Christina DeWitt is the director of Oregon State University's Seafood Laboratory and she has a mandate that... "Allows us to work with seafood processors and also do research that is relevant to them, have access to product in the way that they would have access to product so we can help them address research questions. We have faculty here doing research experiments looking at quality and safety of seafood, helping to do outreach which would be training of the industry with regard to quality or safety. We are educating graduate students as well and they do their research projects here. Do you ever work with commercial fisherman? Yes. But not in the way that I am telling them how to do things. I might be interacting with with them in their commodity commission type meetings, understanding what they are doing and the types of issues and concerns that they have and how that might be relevant to the research that I am doing. In some cases I might be doing something like good fishing vessel practices.
