8-10 SS Big Birds

8-10 SS Big Birds

“In our northern area we get the 1st crack at the migratory birds, Snows and Blue Geese, additionally we shoot 9 different species of Canada geese and we also shoot mallards and some pin tails. In the southern area we get down there and start  hunting around October 15, and we get our big honkers, the 12 to 14 pounders, and then mallards and we will also stage up to 2 million Snow Geese the 1st week or 2 of November.” You’re listening to Dave Ciani, owner of High Prairie Outfitters that runs very high octane guided bird hunts. “We hunt in Saskatchewan, Canada and in South Dakota and Nebraska. In South Dakota we do wild pheasant hunts and in Saskatchewan we do Sharp-tailed grouse and we do Hungarian Partridge and we also do Rough grouse. We have 2 separate areas which are 6 hours apart so that we can follow the migratory birds down and combine waterfowl hunting with upland bird hunting together so that people can enjoy both. The northern area, which is right at the tree line, we hunt that early in the season when the migrators come in, that’s where we do our Rough grouse and Spruce grouse hunting  and then 6 hours south just north of the Canadian-Montana border, we have about 8000 mi.² of hunting for Sharp-tailed grouse, Hungarian Partridge and various species of waterfowl and in our southern area we only hunt private ground.
