8-16 SS Tom Carvings

Sick of your job or did you just lose a job? Boy old boy do I have a story of inspiration for you. It’s called take your passion and follow it… be true to yourself. Every life adventure is a process. This did not happen overnight. I used to be a pharmaceutical rep but I left the pharmaceutical company in August of 05 and the reason that I did that was because I was traveling all the time. I was gone for 5 days every week for years. So for the next 8 months I was unemployed. During that 8 month hiatus, my sister sent me an old Dremel tool of hers. Now keep in mind that I have never ever done any kind of war work, nor art, drawing, sketching, molding, none of that. During that time after hunting season had ended, I went to Home Depot and bought a pine board and I used this old jigsaw and I drew out a fish and thought “What the heck, why not try to do a fish out of this”. So I cut this fish out, took the eyes out of one of my son’s stuffed animals, and stuck it on their. I still have it today, I made a coat hanger out of it. That was the start and for the next 2 years, I just got more and more curious to see if I could do a better fish.

You were just listening to the story of Tom Dean, an avid fly fisherman from Great Falls, MT. Tom creates beautifully unique wood carvings of trout and steel head. He also photographs his sculptures and then features them on canvas. This tremendously talented sportsman recently received the honor of being asked to exhibit his artwork at the International Fly Fishing Exposition in New Orleans.
