9-16 SS Affordable Flyfishing

9-16 SS Affordable Flyfishing

We're going to hear from our expert fly fisherman Josh Mills. The question before us is this: is flyfishing only for the rich and famous… next. We’ve all heard about it. Guided trips into the wilderness of Montana, Oregon, Washington on horseback with thousand dollar gear setups. So is flyfishing actually affordable for those of us on a budget?: Very much so. You don’t have to have everything in tweed and the newest and latest and greatest. There are a lot of manufacturers now they’re coming out with fabulous rods, TSO,  Reddington, even Sage is coming out with entry level rods that can help people get into the sport. If you want to get into flyfishing, the 1st thing I want you to do is go find your neighborhood or local fly shop. Get to know them because they love to bring new people into the sport. Oftentimes, I know of a local fly shop here in town does beginner courses for $20. Their impetus is to bring people into the sport and enjoy what we all enjoy. Getting a lesson allows you to get past that extreme frustration of learning how to cast a fly rod. At 1st it can feel like you’re a one legged man trying to peddle a bicycle. All of a sudden with a little bit of instruction you can call me lay out 60 feet of line and be an effective fisherman. And then they also teach things like entomology, learning about the bug’s life cycle, how to fish for them, a good stream side ethic and things like that Allow for you to become a well-rounded fisherman or fisher woman.
