I'm talking with editor in chief of Field and Stream Colin Kearns the other day and he said this. “I don't know what I'm more excited about this spring trout fishing or turkey hunting”. Make that I don't know what I'd rather do. Go turkey hunting or go to school. You know the turkey truants as an article in Field and Stream says for a couple of old friends hunting Rio Grande gobblers in Texas isn't quite as much fun as skipping school to chase. Easterns used to be but it's close. Author Will Brantley wrote that the alarm on my wristwatch buzzed signaling the point of no return. It was seven thirty in the morning and had my partner Matt Seymour and I stood up and left the woods right then we would have been sure to have gotten back to school just in time for first period since the story is about being a turkey truant. Obviously they made the decision to stay with the turkeys and then in the article there is the turkey hunters guide to skipping school. It says that your teacher is going to say no if you asked to go hunting instead of attending class. I noticed because my wife's a teacher. My mom was a teacher and my partner Seymour's mom was not only a teacher but also the school superintendent. Sharp every one of them. It's best to simply beg for forgiveness when you get caught. And to have a few very good excuses on hand like missed my alarm or my truck got stuck. Beautiful.
