Agribusiness Update for Thursday 1/24/13

The Senate Majority Leader has introduced the Senate-passed version of the farm bill as a top priority bill for the 113th Congress. Senate Ag Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow applauded Reid for his support and commitment to enacting a new five-year farm bill. The farm bill approved by the Senate last year with overwhelming bipartisan support saved more than 23-billion dollars in taxpayer money.

Monsanto Company has joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Monsanto Executive Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Jerry Steiner says the company is excited to join the council and connect with a global coalition of more than 200 companies that advocate for progress on sustainable development.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a Republican plan to allow the federal government to keep borrowing money through mid-May, clearing it for fast enactment after the top Senate Democrat and White House endorsed it.
