06/20/05 Washington wheat tour

Washington Ag June 20, 2005 The Washington Association of Wheat Growers hosts state lawmakers, staff and agency people on a two-day tour that highlights Lincoln and Spokane counties this Tuesday and Wednesday. Association president Jeff Emtman encourages wheat growers to get involved with the Washington Wheat Tour. Emtman: "Encourage anyone that wants one-on-one opportunity with legislators or agency people to come along and show them that you are a person and that they affect livelihoods and families." The Washington Wheat Tour is headquartered out of the Hilton Garden Inn in Spokane and will depart by bus Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at eight a.m. The goal is to help decision makers better understand farmers, products, markets and issues important to producers and how decisions made in Olympia affect agriculture and the state of Washington. Participants will see wheat production, learn the art of cattle auctioneering, hear about crop rotation, deep well irrigation and the Odessa sub-area, visit a fertilizer and pesticide company, hear about conservation and biofuel and much more in addition to visiting Emtman's fourth generation wheat, cattle and bluegrass farm. The Washington Wheat Tour is generally held every two years. I'm Bob Hoff.
