1-10 SS Bird Banding 1
Bird banding. Who does it….why do it…does it involve bird hunting? I’m DS
Shooting a banded duck or goose is reward enough, but a few lucky waterfowlers are pleasantly surprised when they find additional reward bands. On the last day of Washington's duck season in 2003 a hunter downed a mallard drake that sported two bands. One was a standard, numbered aluminum band. The other was a green aluminum band indicating a $100 reward.
Here’s Bruce Peterjohn of the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory in Laurel, MD to explain the rationale behind bird banding.
