 Can we get our kids more involved in the outdoors? Well let’s let the people at Bass Pro shops answer that question in a minute.

It is vitally important that today’s youth get involved in the outdoors so they can become the stewards and conservationists of tomorrow to insure the maintenance and well-being of our natural resources. I asked Larry Whiteley, Manager of Communications at Bass Pro shops this question.

have an opinion on kids in the outdoors.  “As a company we are out there working with every organization that is doing something to keep kids in the outdoors, whether that is fishing or hunting or camping or hiking or anything that has anything to do with the outdoors. We are working with organizations to grow that and to keep kids in the outdoors. And not just kids. You can take kids all day long and take them fishing and stuff but they have to have a mom or a dad or an adult who will take them. Without that you haven’t done anything because the kid wants to go in and nobody takes them then what good does it do? We work at teaching novice adult on how to enjoy the outdoors, the parents, we are a very big family oriented company, we do a lot of family events so the family can learn how to do the outdoors together. Again the kid can’t do it by himself. “I’ve heard it said that if you don’t have a fishing rod in the hands of a youngster by the time they are 8 years old, the chances of getting them to go fishing later in life diminishes dramatically,”  I totally agree with that especially in today’s world  where you have always video games.
