12-6 SS Dog Aristocracy

Aristocracy in a German shorthair may not mean much.

I’ve told you before about my friend Jody Olson who’s a chucker hunting fanatic and also the proud owner of 2 German short hairs. The older one, 12-year-old Lucy, is a great hunter. The younger one, 3-year-old Maya, represents a serious problem in the field. Jody says she doesn’t get it. “ As they say down south, that dowg don’t hunt. Isn’t that the truth. She just isn’t interested. She has a great nose, wonderful retriever, loves to run but just isn’t interested in hunting. These fellows have told me I’ve got to get to work on this dog and I have been working her. I can see the birds, probably 1000 of them, and they are maybe 200 yards away, and my little pup just goes charging after them and I fry her and she finally stops about 100 yards short and figures it out and comes back to me. We start walking up there and the birds take off. If you trace back their bloodlines you will find that Maya is a direct descendent of many aristocratic German dogs, most notably, Enzo Von Ludwyk, and if you look at my dog Lucy’s genealogy, you will find on the paternal side Chester the Bird Molester. That sort of sums up the difference in their heritage.
