I’m Susan Allen welcome to Open Range. “ Country Girls, untamed curls, curls embracing the breeze, tangling manes in tugging reins frolicking as they please, On spirited mares they’re girls who dare riding with dreams to seize .” Marion Fitzgerald's Australian cowgirl’s poetry describes many of my barrel racing friends and a host of other cowgirls I know thus I thought that sharing a line would help set the stage to tell you about this year’s, ‘in the Company of Cowgirls Art Show and sale May 10 through 13 during the upcoming Pendleton’s Cattle Barons weekend. The “in the Company of Cowgirls gala kicks off the Cattle Barons Weekend Thursday May 10 when doors open at one. From 7-9 that night the public is invited to meet the artist’s whose work will be unveiled during an fun opening reception that includes music by popular cowgirl entertainer and Pendleton favorite Barbara Nelson. For the duration of the Cattle Barons weekend the public is invited to view the art each day starting at 9:00 in the Pendleton Convention Center . Now in it’s fourth year the art show has become a national event featuring twenty-five artists from as far away as Texas exhibiting works that share their heritage in ranching , rodeo and agriculture in variety of mediums .
