Expiring Conservation Stewardship Program Contracts Can Be Renewed
for Five More Years. The Natural Resources Conservation Service announced that participants from the first year of the Conservation Stewardship Program can renew their contracts starting July 11 through September 12, 2014.
"About 200 landowners in Idaho signed up for the Conservation Stewardship Program in 2009. Those contracts are reaching the end of their initial five-year period," said Rob Fredericksen, Resource Conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Idaho. "Participants may renew their contracts for an additional five years if they agree to complete extra conservation measures."
The program, overseen by NRCS, offers financial assistance to farmers and ranchers to apply conservation practices that benefit their operation and its natural resources. Conservation work aided by the program benefits working agriculture lands making positive changes in soil, water, air, and wildlife habitat.
The 2014 Farm Bill continued a strong commitment to resource conservation and heightened the program's focus on generating conservation benefits.
"We look at a landowner's existing level of conservation and suggest practices that can take them up to the next level," said Fredericksen. CSP participants boost their operations' conservation benefits by installing new conservation activities that will benefit priority natural resource issues.
