02/20/06 Governor`s award winner, Richie

Governor Dirk Kempthorne just handed out the awards at the annual Idaho Ag Summit to people chosen for their contributions to Idaho Agriculture. Today we begin a weeklong series to introduce you to this year's winners. First we're off to a milking barn outside Rexburg. That's where you'll find Butte Vu Farms and Janis Richie. After getting her Master's Degree Janis, husband Brett and the family returned to the farm her Dad built in the 1960's. Janis Richie's involvement with the dairy industry spans nearly three decades and won her a spot in the dairy hall of fame. When we caught up with her she was milking some of her 57 Holsteins and Jersey cows. RICHIE "I'm the chairman of the dairy image, dairy confidence committee. Under me is the nutrition education and the health professional education. All the news releases and everything that go out with Cheri Storey." STOREY "Janis has served on the United Dairymen of Idaho board of directors since 1986." RICHIE "Oh my Dad loved cows and I have always loved cows. All our cows have names. This is Georgia." Janis Richie, Governor's Award winner for Excellence in Agriculture Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
