California Water Resources Project and China Approves U.S. Meat Imports

**The California Department of Water Resources has awarded $11.8 million in funding for two projects promoting agriculture and groundwater conservation in Southern California.
The Rancho California Water District in Riverside County received some $5 million to support an ag program, CropSWAP, which is converting 160 acres from water-intensive plants to drought-resilient crops.
DWR also awarded $6.8 million to build a 40-acre groundwater recharge pond.
**China has approved 18 U.S. beef companies and 12 U.S. pork outlets for export to China, the first U.S. plants cleared for export to China in about 10 months.
Erin Borror, US Meat Export Federation vice president, says the approval process was streamlined by the U.S.-China Phase One Trade Agreement and has worked well since implemented in 2020.
Borror says the new approvals are a “big sigh of relief.”
**An Illinois jury has ruled that several major egg producers conspired to limit the U.S.'s supply of eggs in order to raise prices in a federal lawsuit originally filed 12 years ago.
Several large food manufacturing companies including Kraft and Kellogg alleged in the lawsuit filed in 2011 that producers used various means to limit the U.S. domestic supply to increase the prices of eggs and egg products during the 2000s.
Damages will be decided next week.
