From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. The morning session on opening day of this year’s WSTFA Annual Meeting in December will kick off with reports from industry leaders, followed by the Keynote address from Rabo Research Sr Analyst David Magaña.

Meeting chair Marty Olsen says it’s sure to be filled with practical information …

OLSEN … “As we discuss these different challenges throughout the annual meeting hopefully, we’ll be able to take home some answers with, you know, how we can implement some new practices at home.”

Some surrounding, Olsen says a major topic in agriculture …

OLSEN … “Sustainability has been a word that’s been floating around agriculture for a couple of decades at least. And, you know, that topic of sustainability is one that leads me to our Baetjer Speaker in the morning, David Granatstein.”

Olsen says David brings a lot of experience to the table …

OLSEN … “He’s been the statewide coordinator of the Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources at WSU since 1993. So, part of, you know, the Deep Roots and New Strategies, David will be kind of taking a look at where we’ve been and what we’ve accomplished with this sustainability mindset in mind.”

Olsen says Granatstein’s experience can help us become better farmers both from a profitability standpoint and maintaining and caring for our natural resources.
